Absolutely bitter sweet as I drive away from Maps Credit Union for the last time today. So many great people and so many great memories there. I will forever be thankful for the opportunity they gave me, the things that I learned and the bonds that I formed. All I will take with me.Change however is inevitable. I am off to blaze a new path. Start a new adventure, and maybe, just maybe… make a difference! Cheers!

As an old Millennial I still approve this message! Change is okay. We can do it better. We can work and be compassionate and still get the job done.

Confession Time - For a long time I thought I didn't like people. Being in sales/customer service I'd go home every day absolutely exhausted and I'd feel awful about it. I knew, all my wife (elementary school teacher) wanted to do was have a meaningful conversation with an adult. But I could hardly muster the strength to say more than a few words. How was my day? "Good" or "Busy" or maybe she only got a grunt with a shoulder shrug. (Yes we are still married today believe it or not)But how could someone in sales and customer service be successful if they didn't like people? That doesn't make any sense. I'm a terrible actor and my poker face is joke so clearly I'm not able to fake it. Besides, nobody could last as long as I have if they were faking it. The answer was so much easier than I would have guessed. On recommendation from a mentor I had the pleasure of learning a little bit about myself in a great book. "Quiet" by Susan Cain. Whether you are an extrovert and love being around people or an introvert where "people'ing" takes a lot of energy out of you, we all have our individual strengths in this world and business. This book hit me hard, not just because I learned things about myself, but I learned some tools to be a better father for my son's, and clearly a better husband to my wife.I learned I didn't dislike people at all. In fact, it's quite the opposite. The reason I've been as successful as I have and done it for as long as I have is because I care about people so much. It's core to who I am and with the right tools and understanding, I can be that much better! #Neverstoplearning #quiet #introverts #leadershipdevelopment #helpingpeople

Sure, laugh if you want but I just finished reading "How to Win Friends & Influence People" by Dale Carnegie. Honestly the title itself is just kind of funny. When it was referred to me by a trusted colleague I really didn't know what to expect. It took me back in time but in a more whimsical good way. Yes, possibly a bit cheesy and maybe a bit elementary in some ways, the fact of the matter is; the lessons he spoke about are still vital to business today. I can't help but wonder why things we consider so "common sense" in business are so rarely common.I'm working on bettering myself so I can better those around me. At 40 working to change personal things about yourself is neither easy nor fun. The truth is though, I've got big goals and I understand this is just part of my journey. Life is the journey not the destination. I think I saw that on a cat poster once.Lastly, excited to read this next book. I'll save it's details for once I'm finished but I'm ready to dive in. Hopefully you're doing the same or something similar. Learn something new, it's awesome!
