Equipment change, downgrade, and unrequested re-routing?
I was booked on an F award for 2 - LHR-LAX-DEN for next Jan. Apparently they swapped the 77W for the 772 but instead of moving us to J on the same flight, or to a later 77W flight to LAX or to another routing on a 77W, I was completely rerouted from LHR-CLT-DEN in J. I really don't want to transit CLT as there is no flagship lounge, nor do I want to fly across the entire country in domestic F when I was booked on 77W to the West coast. I also don't want to be getting downgraded if there are still 77W routes available and they didn't even refund me the F to J point differential. I plan to call in shortly - What are my best options here? I also need a PM flight from LHR as I connect from europe early in the morning.
Can I request F on the later LHR-LAX? Availability is wide open though the award costs are higher on that flight since its been a month since I initially booked? Or can I request a route thru DFW on the 77W as they have the Flagship and FFD?
Worst case it looks like I could cancel and rebook thru JFK in F for the same miles, but it would be 2 connections. But at least we'd have the Chelsea Lounge, then possibly the 321T to LAX, or at least the Flagship lounges in DFW or ORD before the connection to DEN.

Absolutely DO NOT CANCEL AND REBOOK. Find the routing you want with open seats (it doesn't matter the award price) in F on the 77W or combination of 77W and A321T, call in, and ask for that routing. If the agent refuses, HUCA until someone gives you the routing you want.

When schedule changes happen like this the computer just auto-rebooks you onto whatever flights the algorithm picks. Sometimes the choices are puzzling, if I had to guess the LHR-CLT-DEN routing you were moved to is actually one of the quickest way to get from LHR to DEN on that date.
Anyway, you of course do not have to accept this, just call AA (or can try X or chat, with caution). Tell them there was a schedule change on your PNR, you were moved from F to J, and then ask specifically to be moved to back to F on flights XYZ. It should be no problem to get back in F. I'd ask for LHR-DFW-DEN if the times work.
Oh and for a flight that's not until January this likely won't be the last time this happens.

First thing is to know what you want then call and ask for it, keep in mind that aa is doing away with first class for the most part and aa can’t open up space on ba for you, you need to decide what your top priorities are, but if the later flight is aa equipment they should be able to open space, you might need to be pushy or HUCA,

If F award space is available on BA, they should be able to rebook you onto that too as an even exchange, i.e., without incurring additional surcharges. Otherwise, any all-AA routing with F on the TATL should be fair game.
