Job Summary
Join an inclusive, innovative team that is empowered to make real impacts at the Minnesota Department of Revenue. This position will provide professional level ASL interpreting services for the Department’s employees, applicants, and customers. Interpreting will be needed for a variety of activities including in-person and virtual department-sponsored activities and meetings, interviews, training sessions, and other situations requiring a high level of skill and proficiency. The ASL Interpreter will identify and secure external interpreting resources when additional services are needed. This position will also provide administrative support to the Equity, Access, and Inclusion Office by assisting in the management of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) case records and providing intake services for individuals seeking ADA accommodations. This position will include periodic statewide travel to community events.

Telework is available and negotiated at the time of hire. There may be periodic in office requirements as directed by management. The employee will be required to complete a telework agreement.
Teleworking employees are required to live in Minnesota or in a state bordering Minnesota.

Minimum Qualifications

  • One and a half (1.5) years of experience providing Sign Language interpretation services.
  • National Interpreter Certification or a legacy certification recognized by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)
  • In-depth knowledge of Deaf Culture and inter-cultural dynamics
  • Ability to apply the principles from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct to act ethically and in-line with these principles.
  • Ability to interpret using ASL in a variety of settings, including but not limited to educational activities, events, public events, andadministration meetings in the agency.
  • Must have reliable transportation or a valid class D driver’s license

Applicants who meet the above experience requirements will be further evaluated during the interview based on the following:

  • A fluency test to determine candidate’s high level of language proficiency in English and ability to use American Sign Language fluently and accurately on all levels pertaining to professional needs (e.g., ASL Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) Level 4)
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of experience providing Sign Language interpretation services.
  • Experience in a state employment environment
  • Experience overseeing interpreting services
  • Experience in developing and delivering presentations and trainings
  • Ability to work in a team environment and coordinate activities with other members of the team and with other teams.
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant federal and state laws (i.e., ADA, 504, MN Human Rights, DDH Services Act)

Physical Requirements
Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time. Requires occasional moving of articles such as boxes, laptop, equipment.

Additional Requirements
